The Marble Index (рус. Мраморная доска) — второй сольный студийный альбом Нико, изданный фирмой Elektra в 1969 году.
Об альбоме
Диск записан в сентябре 1968-го на Elektra Sound Recorders совместно с Джоном Кейлом, бывшим участником The Velvet Underground. В отличие от сентиментально-романтичной фолковой Chelsea Girl, The Marble Index исполнен в ставшем позднее типичным для Нико стиле: тревожные, аритмичные композиции с элементами классики, построенные на старинных церковных тональностях, таинственные, сюрреалистичные тексты, необычные аранжировки. Во многом альбом оказал влияние на развитие готической музыки.
В 1991 альбом был ремастеризован и переиздан на CD; в него были включены также 2 бонус-трека — «Roses in the Snow» и «Nibelungen».
На композицию «Evening of Light» был снят короткий видеоклип с участием Игги Попа, с которым у Нико был кратковременный роман. Песня «Ari’s Song» посвящена сыну певицы, Ари Булону.
